Gómez-Acebo & Pombo closes 2023 with almost 12% growth in Spain

Gómez-Acebo & Pombo closes 2023 with a growth of 11.6% in Spain, representing a net turnover of €83.85 million. Globally, the Firm closes the year with a net turnover of almost 93 million euros (92.86M€), which represents a 10.8% growth over the previous year's turnover and once again represents a historical maximum of its turnover.

It is worth highlighting the growth experienced in the transactional areas, which have participated during the year in some of the most relevant transactions, such as the acquisition by Zegona of Vodafone España, the restructuring of Celsa or the takeover bid for OPDenergy.

In addition to Corporate and Banking, the other practice areas have also performed very well, including Litigation, Public, Tax, Labor, Industrial Property, Intellectual Property and New Technologies, all of them with growth of over 10%. At the office level, although all offices have performed well, turnover is mainly concentrated in Madrid, which accounts for two thirds of total turnover. However, the Firm highlights the growth potential of the Lisbon office, which it plans to boost in 2024. The growing weight of the LatAm region is also relevant, with an increase of more than 50% of the invoiced business originating in that region.

In the words of Iñigo Erlaiz, managing partner of the Firm, "We are very proud of the results obtained because it is a very balanced and transversal growth. Our goal is to be leaders in all practice areas and these results bring us closer to that. Growth in itself is not important; it is important to the extent that it reflects progress in the direction set by the Firm, of improving our positioning. The improvements achieved in ratios such as average hourly rate or billing per lawyer, which result from the type of matters on which we are advising, also point in this direction. Therefore, it continues to be a quiet, healthy, very orderly growth. We have made some important additions during the year, but there has not been a larger than usual increase in the number of professionals. As always, maintaining our essence and our culture, in which cohesion between partners, proximity and the personal element are key, continues to be an inalienable principle along the way". He adds: "Beyond the numbers, in 2023 we worked on various initiatives aimed at improving the Firm's productivity and efficiency, and of course taking care of our people. People are still at the center of the project, and we want them to feel that way. In 2024 we will continue along the same path. We plan to undertake important technological projects, and we will continue to focus on positioning: we want to be the Iberian firm of reference and strengthen our international positioning, particularly in the jurisdictions that are most relevant to us".
